catchy unique ways to send your resume

Posted on November 16, 2009 at 8:19pm 6 Comments

So I've been trying to brainstorm unique ways to send a resume to catch the eye of the employer. I've been told to send it fedex because that way it gets on their desk and in their hands which is a good trick. But I was also trying to find other ways other than applying online with the tens and thousands applying. Anybody got any good ideas that can still be considered professional but are different enough to grab some attention?

Hi Becky,

Welcome to the network. Nice blog site that you've set up for yourself. Good luck out in LA; the adventure should be a lot of fun!

Thanks for the add. How has LA treated you so far? Any leads or ideas about what you want to do?

I've been out of school for two years now. This will be my third year as a "working" man. I've done a lot of interning and other freelance work to build a network of contacts and to get by financially. I just started coaching hockey, which I think I've decided is what I would ultimately like to do. I'm still taking everything day by day. I can plan for my future, but plans don't always go the way you want them to.

As for how to use the network, I recommend just browsing some member profiles who seem to have put in some time and effort into their page. I think you can also do a search for members with "community relations" listed in their info. I think the great thing about this site is that it's catered toward people like us so we're all looking for help in the same industry and it won't seem out of the blue to just introduce yourself to someone on here - even better since you can avoid all the preamble that comes with meeting people in person. At first I thought it would be weird, but I've just put myself out there and have gotten a pretty decent response from the members of this network.

Another thing I like to do is read the blogs that are posted on here and comment with my thoughts if I feel that I can contribute something. That's another great way to break the ice, so to speak.

I don't know where in LA you're located, but I know there's a minor league hockey team of the ECHL, the Ontario Reign, that just finished up their first season in Southern California last year. They may or may not be looking for help since they're still very new. The only thing is that Ontario might be a little far from LA. Maybe 75-90 minutes or so.

Hope that was helpful. Keep me posted on how things go. Good luck with everything!

Rebecca, I am a member of Sportscareers.com. I think it is an excellent site for anyone looking for a job in the sports industry. I have listened in on the weekly conversations with Mark Tudi, the owner and president of the company. I got the opportunity to speak 1-on-1 with him that night since noone was really on the line. I encourage you to join the site and check in on the jobs, and call in to the weekly meetings on wednesday nights. Good luck
