Over the last 20 years, the cost for a college degree has gone up, while the degree's actual value upon graduation has gone down (supply of college grads vs. demand for college grads). The Wall Street Journal put together an article chronicling what some colleges are (and aren't) doing to assist graduates land positions after graduation.
As a veteran of the staffing industry and a recruiter for the sports industry, this article hits home.

For those not following this case, a group of former New Orleans Hornets employees who claim they were coerced into working overtime without being paid for it or were unfairly denied commissions may bring the NBA team to trial.
Below is what you need to pay attention to...
"Although the ruling deals specifically with the lawsuit against the Hornets, it could call into question employment practices of other major pro sports teams — if they have sales personnel who work more than 40… Continue

I was recently asked to define the "sports industry." My niche(s) is the academic side of sport management and sales and marketing in team sports. The sports industry as a whole is MASSIVE -- over $200 billion by some estimates. Below is an article...does it seem accurate to you?

The article below highlights Tiger's recent injury and the effect it will have on golf. Much was made about Kobe being the "next Jordan." Is Tiger the "next Jordan?" Or, is this an unfair comparison? Is Tiger actually bigger than Jordan?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I'm starting this topic as a means to spark dialog about various jobs available in college athletics. I realize that some people's knowledge in particular areas maybe better than others, so lets share our individual experiences in college athletics jobs. I've worked in marketing and promotions and event management, both are very tedious, high energy jobs! You def must get your fix of whatever gets you going in the mornings b4 setting out for work each day, lol.

Did anyone see the Washington Capitals vs. Carolina Hurricanes game last night? Alexander Ovechkin might be one of the fiercest competitors I have ever seen in professional sports. He seems to be internally driven to win and lift up his team no matter what the circumstances of the game. I can't think of a single player in any sport that I would rather watch. If you have the chance to follow a game, pay attention to the way he finishes off plays and checks, throws his body around the ice, defends…

Look, I am all for people exercising their right to free speech. I went to the Naval Academy at the age of 17, and have spent the last 10 years of my life defending that right. However, when the President of the United States goes out to make the first pitch of the baseball game, you would think as Americans we could exersize some restraint. I don't think that is the appropriate platform for people to express their displeasure. To think that there are people watching in 100 other coun…
